Reviews

Reviews: ways to care for the body and interior

The same result, a clean and well-kept car, can be reached in different ways. Each has its own conveniences and limitations, and the choice depends on the weather, your free time and the materials of the body and interior. Here we compare care methods, not products, to make it easier for you to choose what suits you.

The best care method is the one you will actually keep doing, not the one that looks most impressive.

— Editor's note

We compare approaches, not brands: there are no brand names, rankings or advertising here. All comparisons are descriptive, with no invented tests or figures.

Care methods

Five common approaches and who each one suits.

Hand washing

Gives you full control: you see every area and choose the sponge and product yourself. It takes time, a suitable place and care, otherwise you end up with scratches instead of a clean car.

Care

Touchless washing

Dirt is removed with snow foam and pressurised water, without a sponge. The risk of scratches is lower, but heavy grime doesn't always come off, and the jet must not be aimed close to seals and stickers.

Choosing products

Wax and protective products

They form a thin layer on the paint that makes the next wash easier and adds shine. They last for a limited time and are no substitute for repairing chips.

Materials

Dry interior cleaning

A vacuum cleaner, brushes and slightly damp cloths deal with everyday dirt and leave almost no moisture inside. They may not be enough for old stains.

Problems

Wet interior cleaning

Cleans upholstery more deeply but needs thorough drying and airing. If the fabric doesn't dry out, the cabin starts to smell and the windows mist up.
